More About FlyDill

The Beginning

With over a decade of fishing experience and just under 8 years with a fly rod we’ve turned to create our own fish food. All flies, bucktails and spinners are 100% hand tied, poured, and painted here in Maryland. I take much pride in my work. Most flies and spinners are made in small batches to ensure a good product. So when you get your hands on any of my “fish food”, just know they are tied with some of the best tying materials, durable, and bad to the bone.

From the Vise

Chartreuse Clouser Minnow

Started tying these after watching stripers blow up on silversides under the Route 50 bridge one October evening. The fish were keyed in on that chartreuse-over-white flash right at the surface. Went home and sat at the vise until I had a dozen that swam right.

Materials

  • Mustad 34007 1/0
  • Medium lead dumbbell eyes
  • White bucktail — select grade
  • Chartreuse bucktail
  • Pearl Krystal Flash
  • UTC 140 thread, white

Tying Time

~8 minutes per fly

Best Conditions

Outgoing tide, stained water, overcast. Deadly around bridge pilings and rip rap.

Pro Tip

Let it sink to the bottom and strip it back in short pulls. The dumbbell eyes make it ride hook-point up so you can tick the rocks without snagging.
